The artist
Pierrick Lamarre
Shawinigan
My name is Pierrick Lamarre, and for as long as I can remember, I have always loved creating objects. Even as a child, I handcrafted my own gifts—a passion that only grew stronger over time. Today, it is wood that guides and inspires me. This living material, with its own unique story written into every grain and knot, offers me an intimate connection with nature. For me, working with wood is about listening to what it has to say.
My process always begins with a raw log, a fragment of a tree that I carefully select. After an initial shaping on my woodturning lathe, the piece enters a long drying period, lasting anywhere from 6 to 12 months. Only then can I resume the work, refining each detail to highlight the intrinsic beauty of the wood. I let my emotions interact with the natural forms, giving every piece its own unique character.
My craft is deeply rooted in a respect for the material. Every bowl, every utilitarian or decorative object I create, celebrates the very essence of the tree. I see it as a form of immortality: transforming what nature provides us into timeless works that are both simple and unique.
Through my passion, I hope to keep this craftsmanship alive and pass on my love for wood to future generations.
