Textile constructions

Picture gallery

Through her favorite material, Tyvek – this paper-like but very robust textile – Ute Wolff transports us to an unusual world where she expresses herself with and around the yarn.

The project

The loss of my mother was an overwhelming life experience for me. I had to integrate this reality into my creative work to find meaning and keep moving forward. Having to deal with her absence sharpened my already existing interest for sociological and philosophical themes, for the human condition and the vulnerability of life. I express myself with and around the thread.

I am not looking for a figurative expression, but rather emotional and symbolic.

The point carries the idea of the circle of life, of emptiness, as the balance between the negative and the positive, between life and death and symbolically contains all our anxieties linked to this duality.

The colors for this project are mainly graphic. The color of gold is inspired by a quote, found in the diary my mother had been conducting since her diagnosis: “There are memories that are so golden, that they still lend a glimmer to the poorest present.”

The heat of gold was a consolation to me, a balm for the soul.

Collectively we have just experienced a global crisis and it is impressive to see how fragile the balances of our systems are. We know this in theory, but it is rare that we live it with this magnitude. Our societies but also the human being in his interaction with the other or being in his individuality, his inner intimacy, are never far from the tipping point. Everything can change in an instant. Vertigo.
