Julie Simoneau
Wood, textile, caoutchouc and sequin
I explore the multiple, the grouping of objects that are unique yet similar. I am interested in the individual as a multiple being, fragmented by potential and possibilities.
Also very inspired by societal phenomena and social behaviours, my approach is exploratory, sensitive and playful. It invites us to reflect on ourselves, each other and our interrelations. Like colour, lines, shadow and light are recurring elements of my art. I regularly work around flora and fauna, in reference to tales of our childhood. Technologies are gradually added to my work, often challenging the manual and mechanical processes that I use.
I strive to surpass myself, develop a new expertise and push the frontiers of techniques and materials. Trained in visual art at Concordia University, I’ve been teaching for the past ten years in the workshops of Cégep Limoilou.
