Portrait of Nicole Deschênes Duval

Nicole Deschênes Duval

Sculpting

Born in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, I studied wood carving at the École de la Sculpture of Jean-Julien Bourgault from 1963 to 1965. Childhood and adolescence are my main inspirations. They are concepts through which I can express my emotions, feelings and visions about life. I strive to evoke simplicity, expression and joie de vivre. I see my art pieces as a hymn to life.

I have a perfectionist nature and my creations illustrate my passion for wood carving. In fact, wood is my favourite medium, and I particularly like to work with walnut wood. I also cast bronze and hydrostone from my own original wood moulds.

I feel a strong connection with people and I am very happy to share my knowledge.
