Upkeep
Pewter is a solid and durable metal that's easy to care for day to day. A simple wipe with a soft cloth is all it takes to restore its natural beauty. For a deeper clean, a slightly damp cloth works perfectly — just dry afterwards.
Unlike silver, pewter does not oxidize or tarnish over time. Instead, it develops a natural patina that gives it an organic, warm character — a defining feature of Sonia Ferland's handcrafted work.
The artist
Sonia Ferland (Osmose)
Québec
Trained at the École de joaillerie de Québec, Sonia Ferland creates metal jewelry in the heart of Old Québec with a deeply sculptural approach. Her pieces, which she describes as “small wearable sculptures,” are designed to come fully to life once worn, creating a dialogue between material, body, and emotion.
Inspired equally by nature and the industrial world, she draws from the rhythm of a fallen branch, the structure of an electrical tower, or the lines of urban architecture to create sensitive and balanced forms. While she works with various precious metals, pewter remains her material of choice for its malleability, durability, and lasting lustre.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, from Japan and Australia to France, Italy, and the United States, and has earned her the City of Québec Award on two occasions. Through each creation, Sonia Ferland seeks above all to craft lasting, distinctive, and deeply human objects meant to become part of the wearer’s own story.
