The artist
Jocelyn Fafard
Québec
Primarily self-taught, I draw inspiration from art publications, museums, vintage car exhibitions, and the careful observation of nature and everyday details. These influences fuel my creativity and enrich my artistic vision.
Acrylics, my medium of choice, perfectly reflect my “retro-contemporary” style, a blend of nostalgia and modernity. Always seeking innovation, I experiment with techniques like airbrushing, palette knife, and glazing, adding depth and vibrancy to my work.
In drawing, I particularly enjoy using ink and graphite pencils for their rich textures. I strive to vary my compositions, placing main subjects in captivating contexts, enhanced by a delicate balance of light and shadow.
My figurative painting approaches hyperrealism without becoming photographic. Fascinated by automobiles and modes of transport, I merge my passion for drawing and painting with inspiration from comic books, adding a narrative and playful dimension to my creations.
For me, art is a lifelong pursuit of learning and wonder. Each painting represents a unique journey, where compositions, light, and textures come together to tell stories and offer a window into my world.
