Description

Study O-23 is an original framed handmade-paper artwork by Carole Baillargeon, combining collage, natural dyes and vine ink in an earthy composition centred on the organic form of a stone.

  • Artist: Carole Baillargeon
  • Handmade paper, collage, natural dyes and vine ink
  • Plants and dye materials: rhubarb, lac, madder, walnut, Norway maple, mulberry, amaranth, sumac and Norway spruce
  • Anti-UV protective varnish
  • Created in 2023 and completed at Le Vivoir during an artist residency in 2026
  • Artwork sewn onto acid-free foam board that can be retained and reused if the frame is eventually replaced
  • Artwork presented in a basic “house” frame included with the artwork to facilitate handling and transportation. The frame allows the artwork to be hung immediately or displayed on a shelf or in a bookcase using the rear easel stand. It is intended as a practical frame for protection and presentation rather than professional framing with anti-reflective glass. The frame may therefore show some marks or light scratches, without affecting the artwork
  • Artwork dimensions: 16 x 16 cm; framed dimensions: 9 x 9"
  • Signed, one-of-a-kind artwork
  • Certificate of authenticity included

A quiet mineral presence emerges through deep natural pigments and the tactile irregularity of handmade paper.

Portrait of the artist Carole Baillargeon

As a multidisciplinary textile artist, my use of handmade paper, natural dyes and their derivatives marks a commitment associated with neo-materialist philosophical thought, which highlights traditional knowledge by advocating a new balance between humans and materials, between the memory of previous generations and a renewal.

Drawing inspiration from cultural and social heritage, I treat my subjects with my visual language: a schematization of shapes, an abundance of textures, an expressiveness of gesture. The use of structural codes drawn from different fields inspires me to compositions and representations where iteration inevitably takes place.
