Gaétan Avoine

Sculpture

Having grown up in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, I attended the École de la Sculpture. However, I’ve gained most of my knowledge on my own.

To me, “being an artist” is a statement that does not necessarily translate how I define myself. In the early days I chose the profession of wood carver to make a living. I worked as a freelancer and primarily lived off the pieces I exported. The French and the Americans particularly appreciated the artistic creations of our region. I’ve also worked for some local companies, such as Art Massif and L’Épopée de la moto.

Now that I am retired, sculpting is a passion and a hobby. The act of woodcarving is for me really personal. When I’m creating, I love being in my bubble.
