Saint-Jean-Port-Joli

Portrait of the artist Élisabeth Cardin

At the eve of my 40th’s, following the call of the river and the community, I decided to leave Montreal to settle in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli. In the hollow of my small ancestral home, I practice drawing, writing and weaving. In another life, I was a horticulturist and owner of the Manitoba restaurant, a gastronomic place that paid tribute to the nourishing territory of Quebec. Whether in my cooking, in my writing or in my landscapes, it is nature that inspires my movements. Food, wood, textiles, stones, animals, lichens, colours and magic fill my mind and my heart every day.

You can discover my journey by reading the essay Harvest time or by browsing the book The Maple and the Partridge. I also wrote the script and narrated the podcast Eating the territory, available on all audio platforms. I am convinced that saving the world will involve repairing our emotional connection to the land. I invite you to become aware of where your food, materials and actions come from. Stare at the landscape, then close your eyes and feel yourself vibrating to its frequency
