We have a literal anatomy, bone - teeth - flesh, but we also have an anatomy qualified as poetic. It is the latter, invisible, that appeals to me and that I explore.
As the daughter of Italian immigrants from the North, born in Quebec, my poetic body reveals itself as fragments of power that push me to pass on what my ancestors do with me, with me. I see my art as a deconstruction, then a reconstruction of these fragments that I want to consolidate into a whole whose meaning I must preserve.
My production expresses my inner heritage with vigor, going between my head and my heart, the motherhood of my mother and mine, my mother tongue and the language of my native country, giving great meaning to the symbolism.
I favor acrylic, which calls for bold colors that apply, overlap, fight until they fall back and let themselves be surrounded again and again by this beige, often present in my works, acting as a consolidating warmth.
Creation process
It was while working in black and white on canvas that I branched off and found what I wanted to exploit. It is a work of deconstruction/reconstruction where the unknown, as always, plays a large part. I use fragments of paintings, sculptures, drawings that I have created so far to bring them together with my pencil-ink stroke and create new works on paper. I can't be more on the axis of my artistic approach: I undo-redo and without knowing it, I end up each time with an image that reveals a poetic body that I recognize.
The series is called Beings of all crossings. The images created do not have a title. They rather have a number that identifies them in order and they have in common that they all contain the fragment Being.
