Hand carved butternut wood mirror by Martin Giasson
The artist knows how to make the useful to the pleasant; he embellishes everyday objects, like this dressing mirror that can be used every morning, to check the back of your hairstyle, for example!
The top sports a beautifully sculpted rose, then on the other side a 4 '' x 5 '' mirror that will allow you to admire your hairstyle or makeup. The handle is sculpted with the shape of the fingers for a good grip. The whole thing is very light, therefore easy to use.

I grew up with two uncles who were sculptors and passed their passion on to me. In 1967 I made my first wood carving. Then, in 1973 I started practising the art professionally. I describe myself as an artisan rather than an artist.
I’ve had the chance to work with great figures of my region and learn from each of them. For nine years, I spent my summers with Antoine Bérubé. It was my school of sculpture. I spent the following summers with Jacques and André-Médard Bourgault, with whom I learned a lot. Later in my career, I exhibited in Rimouski, Québec and Victoriaville.
To me, transforming wood is a privilege. Working and creating something from a tree… it’s fascinating! I believe that the revival of sculpture in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli is important so that this art does not disappear.
