Description
Hand carved butternut wood mirror by Martin Giasson
The artist knows how to make the useful to the pleasant; he embellishes everyday objects, like this dressing mirror that can be used every morning, to check the back of your hairstyle, for example!
The top sports a beautifully sculpted seahorse, then on the other side a 4 '' x 5 '' mirror that will allow you to admire your hairstyle or makeup. The handle is sculpted with the shape of the fingers for a good grip. The whole thing is very light, therefore easy to use.
13 x 5½ x 1¼ ''
* Given the artisanal nature of the pieces on offer, it is likely that there are slight differences between the pieces photographed and the artist's future creations. This is what creates the authenticity of handmade work!

Saint-Jean-Port-Joli

I grew up with two uncles who were sculptors and passed their passion on to me. In 1967 I made my first wood carving. Then, in 1973 I started practising the art professionally. I describe myself as an artisan rather than an artist.
I’ve had the chance to work with great figures of my region and learn from each of them. For nine years, I spent my summers with Antoine Bérubé. It was my school of sculpture. I spent the following summers with Jacques and André-Médard Bourgault, with whom I learned a lot. Later in my career, I exhibited in Rimouski, Québec and Victoriaville.
To me, transforming wood is a privilege. Working and creating something from a tree… it’s fascinating! I believe that the revival of sculpture in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli is important so that this art does not disappear.
