Although I chose the practice of dentistry, I have always been interested in the arts. Alongside my professional practice, I took courses in visual arts and art history at Laval University. However, it was in jewelry making—discovered when I was forced to end my career due to a vision problem—that I finally found my preferred medium. I then decided to shift my focus and complete a college diploma in craft métiers at the École de joaillerie de Québec.
As a jeweler, I work with both precious metals and unconventional materials, which I combine to create volumes. My vision problem influences my creative process, leading me to favor organic and irregular forms. I also appreciate raw finishes and patinas: I believe these elements add vitality to my creations. I enjoy having my pieces reveal part of the process of their making. That’s why, occasionally, I leave or highlight certain marks that are indicative of this process.
The jewelry I create is whimsical, colorful, and joyful. The scalloped shape, which I frequently use, contributes to this. My imagination is influenced by the circus world and dreams; often, my pieces take the appearance of animated beings.
I reflect on the place we give to our public image, and the confrontation between our real and virtual identities. My perspective is kind and humorous towards the excesses we sometimes display.
