As a child, I was eagerly awaiting my weekly appointment with the television show L’heure Disney. The animation of the credits showed us a magic brush capable, by a continuous wash, of painting a phantasmagorical landscape populated by fabulous characters and marvelous castles. This memory has remained persistent and I still fantasize about painting with such a brush.

Water-based mediums, particularly watercolor and ink on paper, cause these situations where the color magically spreads. It's a risky technique that can both deliver startling effects or monstrous mess.

When I paint, I am always on the lookout for those magical moments during which, as an artist, I play the balancing act between control and loss of control.
